Wagner is 1-8 against O'Neill since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wagner Red Raiders will be playing at home against the O'Neill Eagles at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Wagner is ranked 86th in South Dakota, while O'Neill is ranked 65th in Nebraska).
Last Thursday, it was a hard-fought match, but Wagner had to settle for a 56-53 loss against Parkston. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Wagner has suffered against Parkston since January 11, 2018.
Meanwhile, O'Neill scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They blew past Ainsworth 72-46. Winning may never get old, but O'Neill sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
O'Neill found their leader in underclassman Turner Heiss, who scored 29 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Heiss has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Morrow, who scored 19 points along with three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Wagner and nudges their season record down to 4-4. As for O'Neill, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Wagner was dealt a bruising 84-46 defeat at the hands of O'Neill in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Wagner, Landon Classen (who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
