Legacy and Regis Jesuit are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Lightning will welcome the Raiders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Legacy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while Regis Jesuit will come in with eight straight victories.
Legacy is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest defeat since March 22nd on Thursday. They fell just short of Holy Family by a score of 6-4.
Jack Schoenheider and Jason Olsen stepped up to the plate in a big way. Schoenheider went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Olsen got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lucas Kelnhofer, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Regis Jesuit). They put the hurt on Castle View with a sharp 17-10 win on Friday. The Raiders not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 11-0).
Christian Lopez and Hudson Alpert made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Lopez tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Alpert pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. What's more, Lopez posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At bat, Lopez got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Alpert went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Diesel Bernosky was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Gavin Cronin was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Regis Jesuit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Regis Jesuit pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Legacy, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Legacy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Regis Jesuit struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Legacy might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Regis Jesuit when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Lightning have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
