Basketball Recap: Rachel Roberts' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Providence over Huss

Providence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 55-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huss Huskies. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 368th, while the Huskies are ranked 167th).

Providence lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Rachel Roberts, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points. Those 11 points gave Roberts a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Fuller, who posted eight points in addition to 14 rebounds and four blocks.

Leading Huss to victory were Jaleila Littlejohn and Brooklyn Swann. Littlejohn went 8 of 12 on her way to 23 points along with eight steals and six assists, while Swann dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards. Swann has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Arielle Camp was another key player, putting up seven points and six rebounds.

Providence's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Huss, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Providence and Cox Mill will face off at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Huss, they and Ardrey Kell will face off at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
