The Live Oak Acorns will be playing at home against the Christopher Cougars at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
Two weeks ago, Live Oak ended up a good deal behind Branham and lost 35-21. The Acorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Isaac L Watson, who picked up 88 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Jones, who rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Live Oak's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Zurik Peery was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He also made six total tackles, which is notable because Live Oak is 2-1 when he posts at least four total tackles, but 1-5 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Christopher came tearing into last Thursday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Longhorns as they made off with a 32-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five contests by 23 points or more so far this season.
Christopher got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaxen Robinson out in front who threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns. Evan Vernon was Robinson's top target, picking up 120 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Christopher didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Erik Carbajal and Salomon Quintero.
Christopher pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26 points. As for Live Oak, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Live Oak didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Christopher in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, but they still walked away with a 28-24 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Christopher's William Rizqallah, who rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for Live Oak to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
