Southwestern recap Sept. 26, 2012
Murrieta Mesa moved up to 156 from 243 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southwestern. The Rams climbed the ranks as a result of a 70-0 win over Lakeside.
Murrieta Valley extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Elsinore, 38-9. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Nighthawks.
Temecula Valley's dynamic duo of Kyle Plantier and Griffin Doran proved tough for Paloma Valley to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Plantier threw for 379 yards and two touchdowns and Doran had 135 yards receiving. Andre Armstrong helped Temecula Valley's passing attack out by catching four balls for 75 yards.
Kishawn Holmes was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 142 yards on 17 carries as Vista Murrieta lost to the Wildcats. Teammate Nick Stevens added to the ground attack by rushing for 105 yards.
Murrieta Mesa's Chase Chambers and Khalil Sharpe have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Southwestern in both passing and receiving yards. Chambers has thrown for 1577 yards this season, while Sharpe, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 38 catches for 445 yards. Jakob Certeza from Great Oak leads the league in rushing with 618 yards.
Justin Schaeffer's team took down the Lancers 70-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Chambers threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 16 yards in the win.
