1A North Central recap Sept. 26, 2012
Holyoke was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 1A North Central. Earlier in the week, the Dragons defeated Cornerstone Christian Academy 55-0.
Wiggins extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Highland, 45-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Tigers.
Luke Mondt threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns. He was 18-25 with zero interceptions.
Colby Newton made the biggest impact on defense this week as Wray beat St. Francis. The 5-foot-10 senior pulled down one interception and forced one fumble.
Thayer Sauter was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 229 yards as Wiggins bested the Indians. Teammate Garret Walker added to the ground attack by rushing for 166 yards.
Cade Reinick provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Wray topped St. Francis. He completed 15 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 53 yards. Reinick's favorite target this week was Lefever, who caught six passes for 106 yards.
Resurrection Christian's Mondt and Jake Lohr have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 1A North Central in both passing and receiving yards. Mondt has thrown for 883 yards this season, while Lohr, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 19 catches for 329 yards. Sauter from Mitcheal Risner's team leads the league in rushing with 878 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Cougars take on Holyoke. As it stands, Resurrection Christian is in third, while John Zilla's team is in fourth.
The Dragons took down the Bulldogs 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brett Cumming ran for 135 yards and caught one passes for 45 yards in the win.
