Northview has gone a perfect 10-0 against Baker recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Chiefs will square off against the Gators at 4:30 p.m. Northview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Northview came up short against Pensacola Catholic and fell 10-7. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Chiefs, who until this contest were averaging 3.38 runs allowed.
Northview saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jase Portwood, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Bryant Mason was another, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Baker had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Bobcats. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by eight runs or more this season.
Baker let Rand Stokes and Brennen Ellis run wild. Stokes went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Ellis went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits Stokes has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Dawson Mitchem, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Baker and bumps their season record up to 15-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Northview, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-8.
Northview was able to grind out a solid victory over Baker in their previous meeting last Monday, winning 11-6. Will the Chiefs repeat their success, or do the Gators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
