Washington has gone a perfect 10-0 against Hampshire recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Saturday, Washington got the win against Berkeley Springs by a conclusive 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Marshall Derrick and Connor Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Derrick went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Smith went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Smith has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brayden Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berkeley Springs only posted an OBP of .316.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hampshire). Everything went their way against Lewis County on Saturday as they made off with a 15-5 win. The victory was nothing new for the Trojans as they're now sitting on three straight.
The team relied heavily on Channing Wilt, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Hampshire is 2-1 when Wilt posts three or more hits, but 6-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Whitacre, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Washington pushed their record up to 13-8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Hampshire, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.
Washington skirted past Hampshire 2-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
