After each having a week off, the Carter Cowboys and the Roosevelt Mustangs will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Roosevelt took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Carter, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Carter really took it to North Dallas for the full four quarters, racking up a 44-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Cowboys in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Damarion Boozer and Antoine Nelson. Boozer gained 116 total yards and three touchdowns while Nelson rushed for 149 yards and one score on only nine carries. Nelson's longest rush was for an incredible 99 yards.
Carter was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 309 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 200 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
One reason for the win was Carter's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Landon Traylor, Rashad Chandler, and Jeremiah Shaw, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in North Dallas' side was Traylor, who picked up a sack, made 13 total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.
Meanwhile, Roosevelt played a tough matchup last Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Kimball and fell 42-6. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1065th, while the Knights are ranked 358th).
Carter's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Roosevelt, they now also have a losing record of 2-3.
Everything came up roses for Carter against Roosevelt in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 42-0 victory. Do the Cowboys have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
