Softball Recap: Burges Has No Trouble Against El Paso

After losing to El Paso the last time they met, Burges decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Burges blew past El Paso 10-4 on Friday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Annaliese Avina was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Burges let Yoselin Chavira and Breann Mendoza run wild. Chavira scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Mendoza scored two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Chavira has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Alvarez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Burges was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Paso only posted a batting average of .321.

The victory got Burges back to even at 13-13. As for El Paso, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season.

Burges will take on Chapin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burges will need to watch out since Chapin has now posted at least ten runs in their last five contests. As for El Paso, they will welcome Canutillo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Paso's pitchers better be ready for this one: Canutillo has averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
