The New Underwood Tigers were the 32-26 winner over the Harding County Ranchers when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. New Underwood was beaten by Harding County 59-10 on Saturday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points New Underwood has scored all season.
Harding County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Claire Verhulst led the charge by scoring 15 points along with two steals. Verhulst is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Jaelyn Wendt was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
New Underwood dropped their record down to 3-10 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Harding County, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Underwood will square off against Jones County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Harding County, they will head out on the road to square off against Lemmon at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Dakota (Lemmon is ranked 29th, while Harding County is ranked 17th).
