While losing is never fun, Legion Collegiate Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 397th, while Gray Collegiate Academy is ranked eighth).
Legion Collegiate Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Worley, who scored 11 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Worley grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Brzozka, who scored seven points.
Leading Gray Collegiate Academy to victory were Treyvon Maddox and Darius Carr. Maddox scored 22 points, while Carr dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Carr also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Jaden Gerald, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Legion Collegiate Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-5.
Legion Collegiate Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Providence Classical at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
