The Darlington Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Lamar Silver Foxes at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Darlington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Darlington fell victim to West Florence and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 10-0 to the Knights. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Meanwhile, Lamar waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hornets a 13-0 shutout. The Silver Foxes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Ansley Fishel made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jordyn Scarbrough and Cheyanne Anderson did most of the damage at the plate: Scarbrough scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Anderson scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in both of her plate appearances. Scarbrough has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Kynley Fishel also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Lamar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .810. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory got Lamar back to even at 8-8. As for Darlington, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Darlington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Lamar struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Darlington's way against Lamar in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Darlington made off with a 12-1 win. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Silver Foxes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
