The Newton County Academy Generals will square off against the Lamar Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Newton County Academy's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
Newton County Academy proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 13) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Starkville Christian 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Generals have posted since February 28th.

Cooper Thrash made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Newton County Academy is 5-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-6 otherwise. Thrash was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryce Jones, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Gaines Boyd, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Newton County Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Lamar Christian came up short against North Forrest on Friday and fell 10-7.
Lamar Christian also got a good showing from Brady Richardson, who pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest hits Richardson has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Austin Esser was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those runs marked the first that he scored this season. Dallas Parker was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
The victory got Newton County Academy back to even at 7-7. As for Lamar Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Newton County Academy skirted past Lamar Christian 5-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Newton County Academy repeat their success, or does Lamar Christian has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
