Lanier and Burbank are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2014, but not for long. The Lanier Voks will head out on the road to face off against the Burbank Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
After soaring to 38 points the game before, Lanier were a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They were dealt a 63-7 loss at the hands of Alamo Heights. While losing is never fun, Lanier can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 953rd, while Alamo Heights is ranked 285th).
Meanwhile, Burbank had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Everything went their way against Edison as Burbank made off with a 40-14 win. The result was nothing new for Burbank, who have now won four games by 26 points or more so far this season.
Burbank's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keven Hernandez led the charge by rushing for 147 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 101 yards and a touchdown. Johnny Alvarado was in the mix as well, providing Burbank with two touchdowns.
Lanier's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Burbank, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1.
Lanier strolled past Burbank in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 by a score of 36-20. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Burbank's Matthew Cortez, who rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Now that he won't be playing on Saturday, will it be that much easier for Lanier to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
