Basketball Recap: Goldsboro Falls Short of Southwest Edgecombe in the Playoffs

Goldsboro and SouthWest Edgecombe squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Goldsboro had to settle for second. They took a 60-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of SouthWest Edgecombe. While losing is never fun, Goldsboro can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while SouthWest Edgecombe is ranked 95th).

Justin Bridgers was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds for SouthWest Edgecombe. Bridgers is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in each of the last 17 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Alijah Lassiter, who to rack up 10 points and seven boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Goldsboro and nudges their season record down to 13-12. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Goldsboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they will venture away from home to challenge Northwood on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Northwood sitting on 15 straight victories and SouthWest Edgecombe on four.
