Basketball Recap: Braylan Dawson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Wahama

Wirt County hadn't done well against Wahama recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wirt County Tigers managed a 60-56 victory over the Wahama White Falcons. This was a revenge game for the Tigers: when they faced off against the White Falcons back in December of 2024, they had to take a 57-37 defeat.

Wirt County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braylan Dawson, who went 8 of 16 en route to 23 points and six steals. That's the most points Dawson has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tyler Smith, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

Wirt County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Wirt County's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-6. As for Wahama, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Wirt County is taking a road trip to challenge Ravenswood at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wirt County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Wahama, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tyler at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
