Montezuma-Cortez is 0-6 against Delta since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Delta Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Montezuma-Cortez will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Delta is ranked 30th).
Montezuma-Cortez unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak two weeks ago. They fell just short of Pagosa Springs by a score of 20-17.
Meanwhile, Delta put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-0 win over Bayfield at home. The victory was just business as usual for Delta, who after eight games remain undefeated this season.
Delta's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jovanny Romero, who rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, and Ty Reed, who threw for 189 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes. Romero was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards. Talan Hulet was another key contributor, rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Montezuma-Cortez's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Delta, their victory was their eighth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-0.
Montezuma-Cortez was taken down by Delta 42-3 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Montezuma-Cortez have more luck at home instead of on the road?
