Purvis is 2-7 against Lawrence County since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tornadoes will host the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. Purvis will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Purvis and Pearl River Central, and Purvis kept the tradition alive. The Tornadoes had just enough and edged out the Blue Devils 3-2.
Chelsea Regan - 2025 was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Regan - 2025 wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mabrey Barrett - 2027, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was Barrett - 2027's first of the season.
Purvis hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 15 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Lawrence County's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of West Marion by a score of 11-10.
Lawrence County got a big performance out of Addie Raye Pennington, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5. GG Sanders was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Purvis' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Lawrence County, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Purvis hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lawrence County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
