The Smith Center Redmen lost against the Hill City Ringnecks back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Smith Center fell to Hill City 51-45. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Smith Center in their matchups with Hill City: they've now lost five in a row.
Smith Center lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Daveyon Orr, who scored nine points. Brant Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Dylan Gansel continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hill City, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Carson Keith, who scored 11 points.
Smith Center dropped their record down to 3-8 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road. As for Hill City, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smith Center will take on Republic County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Republic County has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 2. As for Hill City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oakley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Oakley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 334th, while Hill City is ranked 160th).
