The Highland Fighting Scots are taking a road trip to challenge the Loudonville Redbirds at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Highland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Highland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Johnstown-Monroe by a score of 15-10 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Fighting Scots.
Maddy Stuckman was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Saylor Squires, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Stuckman wasn't the only one making solid contact: Highland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Loudonville entered their tilt with East Knox on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 17-9 margin over the Bulldogs.
Addison Wolford and Jocelyn Kegley did most of the damage at the plate: Wolford scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Kegley scored four runs and stole a base while going 5-for-5. Wolford has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Helaina Gray, who scored four runs while going 3-for-4.
Highland's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Loudonville, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Highland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Loudonville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Highland came up short against Loudonville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Fighting Scots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
