You might not recognize the power rankings this week after a busy last week rearranged the teams a whole lot. A special shoutout goes to Hobbs's senior Micheal Greenough, who scored five total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Can't Touch This
Taos got a 63 - 27 win over Aztec last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Jonathan Garcia. Garcia earned two touchdowns and 310 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Garcia as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Cleveland and Eldorado, 2nd and 3rd in the power rankings, respectively. Cleveland was able to grind out a solid victory over Eldorado, winning 42 - 28. The triumph raised Cleveland up two spots in the power rankings.
Movin on Up
Carlsbad was the better team in every quarter against Atrisco Heritage Academy last week and consequently the better team overall. Carlsbad picked up a decisive 'W' against Atrisco Heritage Academy, finishing up at 51 - 0. Carlsbad's offense might have been extra motivated to turn things around after difficulties scoring in its previous game. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by 12, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Rio Rancho (7th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Las Cruces (5th). Rio Rancho is backed by a win while Las Cruces is motivated by a recent defeat. Both Rio Rancho and Las Cruces have been struggling on the defensive side of the ball (the former allowing an average of 29 points per game, the latter an average of 43 points per game). We'll find out which offense can take advantage of this fact when the two teams meet this week.
