Wellsboro and Troy are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Wellsboro is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Sayre a 17-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Redskins recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Marek Mascho made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Alec Magli was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Bowen, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Wellsboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Troy won against Towanda on Friday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Trojans blew past Canton 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Like Wellsboro, Troy also got a great game from a two-way player: Joseph Frye. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Frye has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Troy let Brendan Gilliland and Mason Smith run wild. Gilliland scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Smith scored a run while going 1-for-3. Gilliland has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Evan Woodward was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
The victory was the third in a row for Troy, bringing their record up to 5-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Wellsboro, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wellsboro has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Troy struggles in that department as they've averaged .479. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wellsboro suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Troy in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Hornets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
