Basketball Recap: Mariah Diaz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gramercy Christian over New Bern Christian Academy

Gramercy Christian was the 54-44 winner over New Bern Christian Academy when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Gramercy Christian Warriors lost to New Bern Christian Academy at home by a 57-39 margin on Thursday. The Warriors were down 48-25 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Gramercy Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mariah Diaz, who posted four points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds gave Diaz a new career-high. Addi Cook was another key player, putting up six points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Gramercy Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

Gramercy Christian's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for New Bern Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 18-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gramercy Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Jacksonville Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jacksonville Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season. As for New Bern Christian Academy, they will challenge Faith Christian Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Monday.
