The South Johnston Trojans's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They walked away with a 35-23 victory over Riverside-Durham. The win was just what South Johnston needed coming off of a 49-22 defeat in their prior contest.
South Johnston can attribute much of their success to Brooke Winborne, who scored 21 points. That's the first time this season that Winborne scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Emma Grey Thornton, who scored six points.
South Johnston's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Riverside-Durham, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.
South Johnston will be playing in front of their home fans against Smithfield-Selma at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Smithfield-Selma comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last eight games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Riverside-Durham's road trip will continue as they head out to face St. Mary's at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th.
