Vista Murrieta and Chaparral are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Vista Murrieta Broncos will be playing at home against the Chaparral Pumas at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Vista Murrieta's favor as the squad sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Chaparral has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Vista Murrieta didn't have too much trouble with Murrieta Mesa at home as they won 68-53. Given Vista Murrieta's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Murrieta Mesa is ranked 314th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Vista Murrieta found their leader in underclassman Cisco Munoz, who scored 25 points along with five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Munoz has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brody Guinn, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Chaparral pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 67-57 to Murrieta Valley. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chaparral in their matchups with Murrieta Valley: they've now lost three in a row.
Vista Murrieta has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-2 record this season. As for Chaparral, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.
Vista Murrieta was able to grind out a solid win over Chaparral when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 66-56. Will Vista Murrieta repeat their success, or does Chaparral have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
