The Bozeman Bucks are taking a road trip to square off against the Holmes County Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Bozeman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Bozeman is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Mount Dora Christian Academy just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 9-8.
Edmund Mackie was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Blake Waites was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Cash Zirkle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Holmes County never let their opponents score on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over Anderson County. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Devils have posted since February 17th.
Bryant Mathis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Holmes County is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 3-10 otherwise. Mathis was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Mathis wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rhett Boyd, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Holmes County and bumps their season record up to 6-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Bozeman, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.
Bozeman was able to grind out a solid victory over Holmes County when the teams last played back in February, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bucks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
