The Hagerty Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Oviedo Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hagerty is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Hagerty didn't have quite enough to beat Lake Howell and fell 5-3. The Huskies have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alexis Williamson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Alexandra Beldowicz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Ana Roman was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oviedo). They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over Trinity Prep on Tuesday. The Lions have beaten the Saints the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Saints has come to flipping the script.
Jodi Skinner looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maile Dunn, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Ahmaya Wheeler also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Oviedo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Oviedo's record now sits at 3-19. As for Hagerty, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.
Oviedo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hagerty has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Oviedo, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Hagerty's sizable advantage in that area, the Lions will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hagerty took their win against Oviedo in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
