Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Payson). They put the hurt on the American Leadership Academy Eagles with a sharp 15-0 victory on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their two-run performance the game before.
Ruger Braithwaite made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Payson's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-13 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddux DeGraffenried, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaxton Haveron, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
