After two lead changes,
Bloomingdale (Valrico, Fla.) took the lead for good when it scored a defensive touchdown with 2:00 remaining in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
East Bay (Gibsonton, Fla.) 21-14 on Saturday.
The Indians pulled ahead on a touchdown run by
Chris Carpentier, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-6. The Bulls scored the winning points with a defensive touchdown that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring zero points in the third, Bloomingdale still trailed by 8 points going into the fourth quarter. But 15 points in the fourth helped BHS pull out the victory.
Eugene Baker was the top performer for the Valrico school. The senior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
The victory will ease some of the sting of the Bulls' close 28-26 loss to East Bay last season.
In a 7A District 8 game next week East Bay (1-2) takes on Newsome, and Bloomingdale (2-1) will go up against Tampa Catholic in a non-conference game.
