The biggest upset of the week belonged to Verdugo Hills, who took down 427th ranked Arleta, 38-32. Mark Powell threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 61 yards in the win.
The Dons moved up to 564 from 643 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in East Valley. Verdugo Hills climbed the ranks as a result of defeating the Mustangs 38-32.
John Wallace's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Tyler Riggs chipped in 160 yards. Carter Otte helped Verdugo Hills' passing attack out by catching four balls for 53 yards.
Josh Riggs was the best wideout in the league this week as the Dons topped Arleta. Riggs racked up 10 receptions for 194 yards.
SAUCEDO MATHEW JOSHUA made the biggest impact on defense this week as Grant bested Poly. The 5-foot-11 senior pulled down one interception and recorded one fumble.
Verdugo Hills' Powell and Riggs have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Powell has thrown for 2081 yards this season, while Riggs, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 71 catches for 1208 yards. The Lancers' GENTRY CHRISTOPHER C leads the league in rushing yards with 978.
Grant's CHRISTOPHER C is a mere 22 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
Monroe's Antjuan Farmer needs only 54 receiving yards against the Parrots to crack 1,000 for the season. So far this year, he has garnered 56 catches for 946 yards.
A big matchup in East Valley this week will be when the Dons take on North Hollywood. As it stands, Verdugo Hills is in second, while the Huskies are in third.
The Dons extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Dan Kelley's team, 38-32. The win marks fifth in a row for the Verdugo Hills.
