The Savio Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 65-33 loss at the hands of St. Michael. While losing is never fun, Savio can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1213th, while the Crusaders are ranked seventh).
Savio lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Matthew Blood, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Savio has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. As for St. Michael's, they pushed their record up to 29-1 with that win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Savio will square off against the Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Michael's knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 20 matchups -- so hopefully the Eagles like a good challenge. As for St. Michael's, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hyde Park focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
