Sharpsville has gone a perfect 10-0 against West Middlesex recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will look to defend their home field against the Big Reds at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Sharpsville's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while West Middlesex has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
West Middlesex's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Sharpsville hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Blue Devils' pitcher stepped up to hand Mercer an 8-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Blue Devils have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Jordan Brest's shutout, as she gave up just four hits.
On the hitting side, Lily Palko was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Keeley Whitaker, who went 2-for-4 with three runs.
Meanwhile, West Middlesex came up short against Mercer on Thursday, falling 18-11.
Julia Thornton and Lila Kimmel stepped up to the plate in a big way. Thornton got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Kimmel went 2-for-3 with three runs and one triple. That triple was Kimmel's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaley Bowers, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Sharpsville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for West Middlesex, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Sharpsville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like West Middlesex struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Sharpsville beat West Middlesex 13-8 when the teams last played on April 12th. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Big Reds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
