Basketball Recap: Augusta Skates Past Villa Madonna with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Augusta). They blew past the Villa Madonna Vikings 83-43 on Saturday. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 21 points or more this season.

Villa Madonna's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drew Thomas, who made all 5 shots he took to post 13 points. Those 13 points gave Thomas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Day, who posted 12 points.

Augusta pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Villa Madonna, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Augusta will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Harrison County at 7:30 p.m. on January 21st. As for Villa Madonna, they will take on Bellevue at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Villa Madonna is facing Bellevue at the right time seeing as Bellevue is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
