The Johnson-Brock Eagles waltzed into their game Tuesday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They greeted the New Year with with a 52-37 victory over Lourdes Central Catholic. Given Johnson-Brock's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Lourdes Central Catholic is ranked 100th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Taryn Ottemann was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. The game was her ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Behrends, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Johnson-Brock's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 21.33 points. As for Lourdes Central Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Johnson-Brock's road trip will continue as they head out to face Pawnee City at 6:00 p.m. on January 4th. Pawnee City comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Lourdes Central Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Falls City on Friday.
