The Gunnison Cowboys suffered their biggest loss since December 9, 2023 on Saturday. Their rough 64-43 loss to Roaring Fork might stick with them for a while. Gunnison was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Roaring Fork apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Gunnison still got an impressive performance from Sienna Gomez, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gomez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Yaslin Hernandez, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Gunnison smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Carly Crownhart, who scored 25 points along with two steals for Roaring Fork. Crownhart is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Riley Bevington was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Gunnison has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Roaring Fork, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gunnison will take on Aspen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Aspen is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. Roaring Fork's road trip will continue as they head out to face North Fork at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully North Fork focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
