Betsy Layne was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in 2A District 8. The Bobcats defeated Paintsville 20-14 earlier in the week.
Betsy Layne and the Tigers played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Betsy Layne eventually emerging with a 20-14 victory.
Prestonsburg's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jarredd Jarrell threw for 289 and three touchdowns and Grant Anderson had 95 yards receiving. On the ground Anderson chipped in 59 yards. Bryson Williams helped Prestonsburg's passing attack out by catching 10 balls for 94 yards.
Prestonsburg's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Black Cats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Jarrell has thrown for 2209 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, while Anderson has 43 catches for 779 yards. Jarrell also leads the league in rushing with 468 yards.
A big matchup in 2A District 8 this week will be when Jonathan Parsons's team takes on Leslie County. As it stands, the Bobcats are in first, while the Eagles are in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Betsy Layne takes on Leslie County. The Bobcats have allowed 124 points this season, while Timothy Koogler's team has given up 151. Betsy Layne allowed 14 points last week as it bested Paintsville.
