DePaul Cristo Rey were the 61-49 winner over Spring Valley Academy when they last played one another back in March of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. DePaul Cristo Rey fell 59-52 to Spring Valley Academy on Thursday. While losing is never fun, DePaul Cristo Rey can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 614th, while Spring Valley Academy is ranked 83rd).
DePaul Cristo Rey's loss came despite strong showings from Britain Starks and Mohamed Barry. Starks scored 18 points, while Barry scored 16 points. Starks scored a full 34.6% of DePaul Cristo Rey's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Fairbanks, who scored eight points.
Camden Montes was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points for Spring Valley Academy. Montes continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
DePaul Cristo Rey's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-4. As for Spring Valley Academy, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
DePaul Cristo Rey won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Shroder Paideia Academy at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Shroder Paideia Academy is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. Spring Valley Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Calvary Christian at 7:15 p.m. on January 16, 2024.
