The Wakefield Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Northern Durham Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wakefield has four straight wins, Northern Durham has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, Wakefield was fully in charge, breezing past Cleveland 92-35 at home. Given Wakefield's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Cleveland is ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Syncere Burnette, who scored 24 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Wakefield's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Hardy, who scored 10 points along with 5 assists.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 40-40 at halftime, Northern Durham was not quite Durham Academy's equal in the second half on Tuesday. Northern Durham fell to Durham Academy 86-82. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Wakefield's victory lifted them to 4-0 while Cleveland's loss dropped them down to 3-3.
