On Friday, the Hooper Bay Warriors faced the Scammon Bay Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Hooper Bay enjoyed a cozy 68-49 victory over Scammon Bay. The win was familiar territory for Hooper Bay who now have five in a row.
Hooper Bay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carson Long led the charge by scoring 29 points. Long is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Latrell Lake, who scored 20 points.
Hooper Bay pushed their record up to 7-1 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.73 points. As for Scammon Bay, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3.
Hooper Bay will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Unalakleet at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Scammon Bay won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Chevak at 1:30 p.m. on January 20th. Chevak knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Scammon Bay likes a good challenge.
