Mountain View hasn't had much luck against San Elizario recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lobos will head out to challenge the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mountain View took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Fabens by a score of 16-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lobos' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Jenny Torres made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Mountain View got a massive performance out of Aimee Bernal, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Yozdette Sanchez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Mountain View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fabens only posted an OBP of .294.
Meanwhile, San Elizario entered their tilt with Clint on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 17-11 margin over the Lions.
Like Mountain View, San Elizario also got a great game from a two-way player: Abigail Rios. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and ten unearned) runs off 13 hits. Rios has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, San Elizario let Kailaa Munoz and Caylee Venegas run wild. Munoz went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Venegas scored three runs while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Carylin Venegas, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Mountain View moved to 5-10 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for San Elizario, their record now sits at 9-17-1.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mountain View has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .591. However, it's not like San Elizario struggles in that department as they've averaged .476. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mountain View might still be hurting after the 21-1 defeat they got from San Elizario in their previous matchup last Tuesday. Can the Lobos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
