Champion lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Marky Nolan, who scored 18 points. Carson Fife was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Liberty found their leader in underclassman Luke Bates, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Bates scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Bates, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Champion has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Liberty, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-16.
Champion will take on Newton Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Champion is coming into the matchup with three straight losses at home, meaning Newton Falls will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Liberty, they will head out on the road to take on Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Memorial is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.2 points per game this season.
