Mountain Ridge scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Boulder Creek, 37-14. At the time, the Jaguar was ranked 21st in the state, while the Mountain Lions was 41st.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mountain Ridge, who took down 21st ranked Boulder Creek, 37-14.
Desert Mountain's dynamic duo of Kyle Allen and Mark Andrews proved tough for North Canyon to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Allen threw for 378 yards and four touchdowns and Andrews had 184 yards receiving. Cody Erickson helped Desert Mountain's passing attack out by catching four balls for 100 yards.
Jarek Hilgers was the most productive running back in I Section III this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 269 yards as Desert Vista topped the Rattlers. Teammate Zach Gonzalez added to the ground attack by rushing for 70 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Mason Thorman of Red Mountain is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1624. He has also thrown 19 touchdowns. On the ground, Brophy College Prep's Marche Dennard has rushed for 966 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Andrews. The Desert Mountain star has 40 catches for 779 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Mountain View and the Mountain Lions. The Toros comes into the matchup ranked 17th in the state, while Red Mountain ranks ninth.
Dennard of the the Broncos is only 34 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
The Thunder's Hilgers recorded the longest rushing play in I Section III this season in his game against Saguaro last week.
