East Sequoia recap October 22, 2013
Corcoran scaled the state rankings by moving to 730 from 803 this week, the biggest jump in East Sequoia. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of besting Woodlake 7-6.
Lindsay took down Granite Hills 45-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Alex Jara threw for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns during the win.
Fernando Tapia made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Grizzlies fell to the Cardinals. The 5-foot-10 defensive lineman racked up 1 sack.
Nicholas Moreno was a passing and rushing force as Sierra Pacific lost to Strathmore. He completed 11 passes for 186 yards and also ran for 9 yards. Moreno's key target this week was Matthew Leslie, who caught 6 passes for 125 yards.
Ricardo Madrigal was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 194 yards on 30 carries as the Spartans fell to the Spartans. Teammate Javier Moreno added to the ground attack by rushing for 61 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Lindsay's Jara and Gaven Mann have proven to be a lethal combination. Jara has thrown for 1,811 yards this season, while Mann has 46 catches for 881 yards. The Tigers' Elijah Cunningham leads the league in rushing yards with 1,103.
The top two teams in East Sequoia will face off this week when first place Lindsay takes on second place Woodlake. Last week, Jesse Lira's team beat Granite Hills, while Woodlake fell to Corcoran.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Cardinals' Mann goes up against Jose Del Rio's team's Ricky Rodriguez.
Going into this week's contest against the Tigers, Lindsay's Jara needs 189 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
