After a 6-2 finish the last time they played, the Hondo Owls and the Pearsall Mavericks decided to play a little more cautiously this time around. Hondo's defense stepped up to hand Pearsall a 2-0 shutout on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for Hondo as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Michael Delgado was the driving force of Hondo's attack as he scored both of Hondo's goals. With that big game, he's now up to ten goals this season.
Hondo's win bumped their record up to 3-6-2. As for Pearsall, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Hondo will take on Uvalde at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Texas (Uvalde is ranked 724th, while Hondo is ranked 736th). Pearsall is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Poteet at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Pearsall's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.
