Baseball Recap: Portland's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Portland had lost five games straight , but after bumping their record up to 5-6 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the East Hampton Bellringers by a score of 7-4. For the Highlanders, this counts as revenge for the 10-2 win the Bellringers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

The team relied heavily on Zach Dickson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

As for East Hampton, they now have a losing record of 4-5. Bellringers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Portland since on Friday.

On East Hampton's side, they got a good showing from Mason Jank, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Jank has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jonathan Crowley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. East Hampton is 2-1 when Crowley posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Blake Kapenaros also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Portland and East Hampton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings. The Highlanders (ranked 97th) will meet Morgan (ranked 24th) at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Portland: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while the Huskies have snatched up five consecutive wins on the road. Meanwhile, East Hampton will take on Branford at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (75 vs. 14).
