Softball Recap: Sierra Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Sierra had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Minarets Mustangs. Considering the Chieftains have won five contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Addy Carrillo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Kk Mikesell was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylah Gibson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Sierra kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matches.

Sierra's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Minarets, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Looking ahead, Sierra will venture away from home to take on Chowchilla at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chieftains' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tribe have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Minarets, they will welcome Madera South at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
