There's no place like home for the Galena Pirates, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past River Ridge 69-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Leading Galena to victory were Connor Glasgow and Kaden Hauber. Glasgow scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks, while Hauber scored 20 points along with five steals. That's the first time this season that Glasgow posted two or more blocks. Myles Schumacher was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Despite the loss, River Ridge still got an impressive performance from Ethan Walters, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Damon Dittmar, who scored 14 points.
Galena pushed their record up to 15-9 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for River Ridge, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Galena will challenge Stockton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stockton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 669th, while Galena is ranked 301st). As for River Ridge, they will head out on the road to square off against East Dubuque at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. East Dubuque will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
