The Hi-Plains Patriots lost against the Cheylin Cougars back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Hi-Plains received a tough blow as they fell 60-44 to Cheylin. While losing is never fun, Hi-Plains can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 298th in Colorado, while Cheylin is ranked 141st in Kansas).
When it comes to explaining why Hi-Plains lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bex Seaman. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Cordell, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Hi-Plains were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Pablo Bermudez, who scored 32 points along with two steals for Cheylin. Bermudez hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Brady Ketzner, who scored eight points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Hi-Plains has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Cheylin, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hi-Plains won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Miami-Yoder at 4:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Miami-Yoder focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Cheylin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wichita County at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Wichita County and Cheylin are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
