Basketball Recap: Southside Skates Past Winn with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Southside's strategy against Winn on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Southside Cardinals blew the Winn Mavericks out of the water with a 64-23 final score. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southside to victory, but perhaps none more so than McKayla Flores, who went 8 for 19 on her way to 24 points in addition to six assists and five boards. That's the most assists Flores has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabryela Galvan, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 16 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Southside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They are a perfect 7-0 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Southside's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 22-5. As for Winn, they dropped their record down to 4-21 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Southside will take on Southwest Legacy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southside is facing Southwest Legacy at the right time seeing as Southwest Legacy is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Winn, they will challenge South San Antonio at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
